About
EMBL is an intergovernmental organisation specialising in basic research in the life sciences, funded by public research monies from more than 20 member states, including much of Europe and Israel, and two associate members, Argentina and Australia.
Research at EMBL covers a broad spectrum of cutting-edge molecular biology, in the main Laboratory in Heidelberg, and in the outstations. Its 1,400 employees from 60 nations represent scientific disciplines including biology, physics, chemistry and computer science. EMBL’s mission is to perform basic research in molecular biology, to train scientists, students and visitors at all levels, to offer vital services to scientists in the member states, and to develop new instruments and methods, and technology transfer.
